Customer notices

Arrival notice

Books on loan can be reserved using the SELMA database. To make a reservation you need a library card. When a book for which you have made reservation is returned, you will receive a notification by post or e-mail indicating when the book can be claimed and for how long it will be held for you.
Due-date notice

A reminder is sent by e-mail to the customer a couple of days before the date the item is due to be returned. The notice serves as a reminder of the approaching due date and gives the opportunity to renew the loan before expiry.

As the due-date reminder is only sent by e-mail, it is advisable to check one’s mail regularly when books are on loan. If you do not wish to receive due-date reminders by e-mail, select ‘Post’ for mode of delivery. If so, the arrival notice of a reserved book and the request for return of an overdue loan are also sent by regular post.
See Overdue loans.
Request to return

The Library requests return of overdue loans by post or e-mail. If you fail to return the loaned item or reimburse the cost of a lost item, you will no longer be able to use the Library of Parliament. See Conditions of Use.

A total of three requests to return will be sent: the 1st reminder on the day following the due date; the 2nd reminder one week from the due date; and the 3rd reminder two weeks from the due date. If the material is not returned or the cost reimbursed, a collection agency may be commissioned to recover the amount due. The charge for a lost book is EUR 60.
